HARRISBURG—Reports of a stabbing occurring last night on Barnett Street in Harrisburg have been confirmed.

ISP's Bryan Harms, on the case.

While we don’t know ALL the details, we have had it reported by officials that A) this did NOT occur in housing, and B) a man is dead.

The few details we do have are as follows: The deceased is Carl Crouch, 59, of 1304 West Barnett Street, Harrisburg. He and his wife are not natives of Saline County, but rather, had moved here from Kentucky not too long ago

The suspect, now in custody, is Crouch’s step-son, Charles Ryan, 41. Ryan was apprehended in Jackson County and is being held at that facility pending first appearance and transfer to Saline. Authorities haven’t made available yet the reason why Ryan was found in Jackson County (whether he was running, had acquaintances there, had run a stop sign and got caught, etc.) This will become more clear as further reports are made available.

Officially, authorities are awaiting input from an autopsy after Dr. John Heidingsfelder (or someone in his stead, since Heidingsfelder is tough to get hold of on a NON-holiday) is located. Judging by the information available—and pending autopsy—it appears that Crouch died at some point in time between 5 and 6:30 p.m. last night, 12.23.11.

A preliminary bail of one million dollars has been set for Ryan. He is scheduled to appear before a judge on Tuesday, 12.27.11, in Saline County

Official sources have reported that the man appears to have received multiple stab wounds. Illinois State Police are involved, being lead by investigator Bryan Harms. Search warrants are being executed on scene, including the suspect’s vehicle. Keep checking back, and if you know anything, feel free to post it.
