CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa—Media is all over a case of a former Harrisburg, Ill., man being charged with murdering his mother in Iowa.
We’ll let the Cedar Rapids Gazette tell you about Ed Cusic, 44, and his mother, Anita Labkon, all of this having gone down last night, Friday, December 7, 2012:
Police say a 44-year-old man faces a first-degree murder charge after a 68-year-old woman was found dead Friday night.
According to Sgt. Nathan Juilfs with the Cedar Rapids Police Department, authorities responding to a “disturbance with a weapon” at 11 p.m. Friday at 624 Old Marion Rd. NE said they found a body of a female, later identified as Anita Labkon, dead inside the residence.
“I saw about six cop cars and a bunch of people outside doing an investigation and questioning people,” said next-door neighbor Scott Dryer.
Police said Edward Cusic, 44, was arrested and faces a first-degree murder charge. Cedar Rapids Police Chief Wayne Jerman reportedly told television station KWWL that Cusic is Labkon’s son. Police said they would not release any further details until Monday.
Neighbors said Saturday that Labkon rented the Cedar Rapids home where she and her son lived.
Ed has a bit of criminal history in Saline County, but nothing that would have lead a person to believe this would happen. He’s the ex of Marcella Cusic, who was busted a couple of years ago in one of Saline’s grand jury roundups for selling pills.
