JOHN T. JORDAN

COLES CO.—  Sexual assaults lead this month’s crime report beginning with John T. Jordan, 38, who has been charged with Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child.

Court documents indicate on or about the first half of 2008 Jordan who was 17 years of age or older, committed an act of sexual penetration with the victim who was under 13 years of age when the act was committed.

Allegations include Jordan caused contact, “however slight,” between his sex organ and the sex organ of the victim.

Sexual penetration

Lester F. Edwards, 22, has been charged with Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse.

Court documents indicate that on or about Summer of 2012 Edwards committed an act of sexual penetration with the victim, who was at least 13 years of age but under 17 years of age by placing his penis in the vagina of the victim when Edwards was at least five years older than the victim.

If convicted Edwards could serve a term of imprisonment between 3 to 7 years and pay a fine of $25,000.

STEVEN C. MURPHY

Cocaine possession

In an unrelated case Steven C. Murphy, 49, of 1313 Lakeland Apt. 19, Mattoon has been charged with Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance.

Authorities allege that on October 5 Murphy knowingly delivered one gram or more but less than 15 grams of a substance containing cocaine.

In 2007 Murphy was charged with one count of Criminal Sexual Abuse Using Force but that charge was ultimately dismissed nearly a year later.

In early 2008 Mr. Murphy was found guilty for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (prescription medication).

He was ordered to serve 24 months probation, spend 139 days in jail, undergo drug treatment and pay a total of $2,416 of which he still owes $1,286.

Murphy just came off a probation revocation from March of this year and a sentence of 18 months in Illinois Department of Corrections and spend 102 days in jail.

In 2011 Murphy was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (prescription medication) but was dismissed a year later.

If convicted on the latest charge Mr. Murphy could serve a sentence anywhere between 4 to 15 years and pay a maximum fine of $250,000.
