Washer and dryer, dirtbike stolen in White

WHITE CO.— As theft and burglary continue to plague southern Illinois counties, the items being stolen appear to be becoming a bit unusual.

Jason Leroy Digby, 35, of 202 Kerney St., Carmi, has been charged with one count of Theft.

According to information filed in the place, on July 7 and July 11, Digby knowingly exerted unauthorized control over property of Anita Cosby identified as one Magic Chef washing machine and one Magic Chef clothes dryer, valued at less than $500.Screen Shot 2014-08-11 at 11.41.43 AM

In 1997 Digby was convicted of Burglary, Theft and Forgery and sentenced to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) and ordered to pay $550 in fines and fees.

In 2003 Digby was sentenced to another three years in IDOC after being convicted of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.

He was also ordered to pay $1,124 in fines and fees of which he still owes $1,004.

Digby was convicted again in February 2005 of two counts of Aggravated Battery/Great Bodily Harm and sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Cash bond has been set in Digby’s most recent case at $1,500.

Zach’s Shack burglarized

Justin M. Gibbs, 20, of 3201 Buchanan Rd., Mt. Vernon, has been charged with Burglary, Theft and six counts Criminal Damage to Property.

According to information filed in the case, the burglary charge alleges that on June 2 Gibbs knowingly entered a building of Zach’s Shack, located at 1400 Oak St., Carmi with the intent to commit theft.

The remainder of the charges allegedly took place June 3.

According to police Gibbs committed theft when he took a beige Casio cash register from Zach’s Shack, containing United States Currency said to be less than $500.

The criminal damage to property charges allege that Gibbs damaged a 14-foot Pro Series Frame pool, located at 203 Eighth St., Carmi, belonging to Christina Evans with damage said to be less than $300; damaged two tires on a white Pontiac Vibe, located at 511 Oak St., Carmi, belonging to Anna Cronin; damaged one tire on Cronin’s 2008 Chevrolet pick-up, less than $300; damaged two ties on a 1995 Pontiac Bonneville and one tire on a 2014 GMC Sierra pick-up belonging to Rice Motors, located at 1306 West Main St., Carmi.

Gibbs is currently serving a two-year court supervision sentence after being convicted February 27 on one count of Retail Theft.

Cash bond has been set in the case at $5,000.

Stolen dirtbike

Dustin Ray Grant, 26, of 725 Shipley St., Carmi, has been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Theft after authorities say on July 30 he stole a Yamaha dirtbike, belonging to Alex Hall, of 1210 Gilpin St., Carmi.

Grant was also charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, cocaine, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia identified as a glass pipe with intent to use said pipe to inhale cocaine.

He was convicted September 10, 2012 of Domestic Battery and sentenced to two-years conditional discharge and ordered to pay $668 in fines and fees, of which he still owes $493.

At the time of his arrest, Grant was serving a two-year probation sentence after being convicted of Unlawful Manufacture/Delivery of Drugs near a School/Public Park and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was also ordered to pay $4,362 in fines and fees, of which he has paid nothing.

Cash bond in Grant’s most recent case has been set at $5,000.
