ELIZABETHTOWN—A village business’ liquor license was on the line and was the subject of discussion at a meeting in Elizabethtown, called specifically for this issue. Here’s our new correspondent Lyndi Bowman, with a newsblast; give a listen:
And here’s the story in brief:
ELIZABETHTOWN—Tonight’s (Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at 5:30pm) meeting of the Elizabethtown board of trustees was a special meeting to talk about the most happening news going on in E-town, The Chippendales!
Unfortunately, the meeting lead to a conclusion that will leave many ladies in the area both disappointed and in uproar and the bar’s owner out a lot of money.
The Chippendales, who are “Dancers,” not strippers, were scheduled to perform at Rick’s Love Shack in Elizabethtown on Thursday, September 5th, just 22 hours after the special meeting was called to order. The owner of the bar had booked the Chippendale dancers two months before this all came to a head, and he and his family had been promoting it and selling tickets. As of Wednesday, over 100 tickets had been purchased, and the performance was the talk of the town.
Apparently, however, the publicity of the event in the forms of fliers plastered all over the area, word of mouth, and Facebook weren’t enough to catch the attention of the city council members until last Friday. When it was noticed, however, it became a choice for the owner of Rick’s Love Shack; continue with the show, or possibly lose his liquor license due to a city ordinance.
The ordinance that sets the conditions for obtaining and holding liquor licenses in E-town has a clause that states that certain types of “lewd or lascivious” entertainment are unlawful, and could be cause for the loss of said licenses. This ordinance is handled by Mayor Cook, who had failed to take note of the event in the previous months and handle this in a more appropriate and professional manner.
E-town’s Mayor, Bertis Cook, admitted that someone had apparently told him of the event a month ago. He said he had forgotten about it, which is why this wasn’t addressed until 22 hours before the Chippendales were to hit the stage. Two other council members acknowledged that they had been aware of the event, but were not aware that there might be a city ordinance issue. The council then notified Rick’s Love Shack that he couldn’t hold the event without potentially losing his liquor license due to the ordinance for liquor licenses in E-town. Council member Sandra Conkle even admitted that she had approached the bar owner at his bar and told him that, if he planned on keeping his license, he better cancel the show.
Anyone who has purchased a ticket is asked to return the ticket to Rick’s Love Shack for a full refund.
