HARRISBURG—Police have had their hands full on the first day of September in Harrisburg.
At just after 1 a.m., a car-motorcycle accident occurred on Commercial Drive (U.S. 45) and Sloan, at the intersection near Huck’s Convenience store. The state police were called in to assist this collision, which has sent the motorcyclist to a hospital out of the area with severe head trauma. The cycle was embedded into the grille of the car, as you can see here. We have the name of the driver but are holding pending confirmation with authorities. We do not have the name of the cyclist, but we do know that a helicopter called to fly him to a larger hospital couldn’t do it because of bad weather in the area.
At about the same time, a break-in was reported at the 100 block of North Jackson Street. A screen was cut on a back door and the house accessed. No word on what may have been taken.
While ISP was responding to the car-motorcycle wreck, a high-speed chase ensued with a car with Missouri plates. Apparently, this driver got away from police. That was scanner traffic; we’ll pin down where, exactly, this occurred if we can.
And our sources working these cases have confirmed that a local man has been killed in a separate motorcycle wreck in St. Louis, this happening yesterday evening (Saturday, August 31). We have the name of that cyclist, but are withholding it pending notification of family.
More as we get it. Keep checking back.
