MT. CARMEL, Ill. - The Mt. Carmel Police Department activity report for the week of April 8 through 15th is here, and there’s been quite a bit of criminality alleged in that short amount of time in the city.
Alleged out-of-area crims found at local motel
The report begins on April 8, which is when Mt. Carmel Police arrested two individuals who were found to be in possession of stolen items including a stolen handgun. Police were investigating a rash of car burglaries and were able to identify two suspects. That investigation resulted in the arrest of Michael B. Thomason, 26 of Albion and Heather M. Suddarth, 25 of Fairfield. Police found the two subjects at a local (unnamed) hotel where the stolen items were recovered. Both were charged with Theft, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Endangering the Life or Health of a Child. The endangerment charge was a result of police finding a small child near the loaded weapon that was reported stolen. Both adults were transported to the Wabash County Jail and held pending the posting of bond, which as of today has not been posted for either subject.
Lawrence County woman arrested outside of the jail
On April 11, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Rebecca L. Carie, 50 of St. Francisville, after police observed her standing outside of the Wabash County Jail. The arresting officer spoke with Carie and she advised she was wanted on a Wabash County deceptive practice warrant. Carie was taken into the Wabash County Jail where she is still being held pending the posting of $150.00 bond.
Arrested outside of Family Dollar
On April 14, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Elizabeth M. Fortner, 38 of Mt. Carmel, on a Wabash County probation violation warrant (pay or appear on a Possession of a Controlled Substance charge dating back to last May, with $1,542 still owed in fines and fees of over $2,200). Police located Fortner sitting in a vehicle parked at Family Dollar and placed her into custody. She was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was held pending a court appearance.
Forget right up the middle; he’s out!
On the 15th, MCPD arrested Logan M. Johnson, 21 of Mt. Carmel after they received a complaint of a male subject passed out on West 9th Street in front of Ten Pins Bowling. Police located Johnson sleeping in a vehicle and had to wake him up. Police say Johnson admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the evening. Johnson was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with DUI and Improper Lane Usage. Johnson was held pending the posting of bond, which occurred a bit later that same day.
Battery at 2-Go’s alleged
The 16th was busy for Mt. Carmel Police; that’s when they were called to 2-Go’s convenience store at 231 N. Walnut Street in reference to two women in a physical altercation. Police arrived on scene and were told that Michelle L. Johnson, 48 of Mt. Carmel, attacked another female (who was not identified in the report) after that woman paid for fuel. The police report stated the victim was attacked in the parking lot of the gas station and had to run back into the store to request help. Once inside the store, the victim reported that she was once again attacked by Johnson. The victim stated Johnson used a car key to stab her in the face and neck. An ambulance was called but the victim refused treatment. Johnson was transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was charged with three counts of Class 3 felony Aggravated Battery (in a public place). Johnson was held pending the posting of bond.
Kaleigh, again
Also on the 16th, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Kaleigh C. Singer, 26 of Mt. Carmel, on a Wabash County failure to appear warrant. Singer was located in the 100 block of West 9th Street in Mt. Carmel and placed into custody. She was transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was held pending the posting of bond, and which hadn’t yet been posted as of today, Thursday, April 18.
