CARMI, Ill. - The old hiding-in-the-attic trick was tried yesterday in a Carmi arrest situation, but as usual, it didn't work, according to Carmi Police reports.

The whole thing started yesterday (Wednesday, April 17) when at approximately 2:50 p.m., officers with CPD responded to an address on the 100 block of Fairview Drive on a report of James Christian Stevens and Heather Bond walking into the residence.

Officers knew that Stevens, 22 and showing that residence address as his, was wanted on a warrant for Unlawful Delivery of Meth.

A short time later, Bond, 35 and also showing that address as her residence, came out and advised that Stevens was not in the house. So certain was she that she allowed officers to come in and take a look around.

A short time later, said officers found Stevens hiding in the attic and placed him under arrest on the warrant. He was totted off to jail and bond of $750 was set on the warrant.

For her part, Bond was arrested on charges of Aiding a Fugitive, along with Obstruction of Justice. Her bond was set the same as Stevens'. Both remained locked up as of this morning, Thursday, April 18.
