Driver arrested for DUI after striking ISP cruiser in early-morning incident, Effingham

EFFINGHAM, Ill. - An Effingham woman was arrested for DUI very early this morning after she ran her Jeep into an ISP trooper's cruiser.

Illinois State Police in Effingham report that the accident occurred this morning (Saturday, February 23) at 2:02 a.m.

ISP said that the unnamed trooper was in his squad car, stationary at a traffic light on Raney Street at the intersection of Fayette Avenue in Effingham when a Jeep Wrangler being driven by Tamra J. Wendt, 45 of Effingham, struck the squad in the driver's side door, this while the Jeep was turning southbound onto Raney from Fayette Ave.

Wendt was arrested for DUI; the trooper was later transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Foreman's Towing removed Wendt's Jeep from the scene; Heartland Towing removed the cruiser.
