
EFFINGHAM CO., Ill. - Illinois State Police worked a single-vehicle accident early this morning that resulted from driving while sleepy, according to their findings post-crash.
The accident, said ISP in District 12, occurred on Interstate 57 northbound, at Effingham County milepost 160, this morning (Monday, February 4) at 4:54 a.m.
ISP said that a 2016 International box truck being driven by Nathaniel Eickmann, 19, of Wood River, went off the roadway after Eickmann fell asleep. The vehicle, traveling off the roadway to the right, struck a guardrail and a metal pole, then came to rest in the right ditch.
Eickmann was transported to St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham via ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries.
He was later cited for Improper Lane Usage.
