WAYNE CO.—Illinois State Police responded to a fatal traffic crash at 12:48 a.m. this morning in Wayne County that involved a rollover on Interstate 64.
According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, Jessy Lee Bradley, 32, of Aurora, Colorado, the driver of a Maroon 1989 Chrysler New Yorker, was traveling westbound on Interstate 64 approximately a quarter-mile east of Mile Post 103, when for unknown reasons he drove off the roadway and into the north ditch.
The vehicle rolled over multiple times, ejecting Bradley and one of the passengers, Stephen D. Carsten, 24, of Bowling Green, Ky.
Bradley was pronounced deceased at the scene by Wayne County Coroner Jimmy Taylor. Carsten was transported from the crash scene by the Wayne City Ambulance Service to St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, for treatment of injuries he sustained in the crash. A second passenger, Christopher Edwin Bruce Zelney, 18, of Elbert, Colo., refused medical treatment at the crash scene.
The vehicle was removed from the traffic crash scene by Rick’s Towing of Fairfield, Illinois. The Illinois State Police was assisted at the scene by the Wayne County Coroner’s Office, Wayne City Fire Department, Wayne City Ambulance Service, and Rick’s Towing.
ISP reports that charges are pending in the case, but give no indication as to who might be charged, or for what. However, Bradley and Carsten were not wearing seatbelts, and Zelney was.
