RICHLAND CO., Ill. - A young woman from Cowden was injured when, ISP reports, she rear-ended a Kenworth truck that was turning off Illinois Route 130 this morning (Thursday, January 24, 2019).
Illinois State Police report that the two-vehicle accident occurred at 7:44 a.m.
ISP said that a red 2000 Toyota Camry being driven by Alexis R. Gillespey, 23, of Cowden, and a white 2019 Kenworth being driven by Steven L. Atwood Jr., 39, of Olney, were both southbound on 130 at Dundas Lane (Richland County Road 1800N).
The truck-tractor/semi trailer slowed and was preparing to turn east onto Dundas Lane. However, Gillespey failed to reduce her speed and struck the rear of the truck with the front of her car.
She was taken to Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney with unspecified injuries.
Gillespey was later cited with Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
