Arsonist among three sent to IDOC out of Hamilton County

HAMILTON CO., Ill. - State's Attorney Justin Hood has announced sentencing of three felons out of Hamilton County, including a now-convicted arsonist.

The first was Christopher J. Green, 39, of McLeansboro, who plead to Residential Arson, a Class 1 felony. Green will serve 7 years in Department of Corrections and serve 2 years on mandatory supervised release (MSR, or, parole) after he is released from custody. The defendant partially burned a house on 210 South Marshall Street in McLeansboro on September 4, 2018. He was ordered to pay $20,000 in restitution to the owner of the residence. An alternative arson charge and criminal damage charge was dismissed per plea. Case was investigated by the Illinois State Fire Marshal, Division of Arson Investigation.

Randall Cottrill

Randall Cottrill, 38, of McLeansboro plead to Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Class 3 Felony. He will serve 5 years in Department of Corrections and serve 1 year of MSR (parole) after he is released from custody. The defendant had less than 5 grams of methamphetamine in his possession after a McLeansboro police officer spoke to Randall about a separate charge on December 28, 2018.

Troy A. Brown

Troy A. Brown, 20, of McLeansboro plead to Failure to Notify Change of Address as a Sex offender, Class 3 felony. He will serve 2 year in Department of Corrections with one year of MSR to follow once he is released. Brown had gone to visit relatives in Marion County and was gone longer than the three-day registration period. McLeansboro police investigated the case.
