FAYETTE CO., Ill. - Another "leaving the road for unknown reasons" crash has sent a Colorado driver to a St. Louis hospital with apparently serious injuries after an early-morning Fayette County incident.
Illinois State Police in District 12 Effingham advise that the crash occurred early this morning (Sunday, December 9) at 12:29 a.m.
At that time, Mark P. Mullen, 28 of Aurora, Colorado, was driving a 2017 GMC box truck pulling a 2007 Toyota passenger car eastbound on U.S. Highway 40 when he went off the roadway to the right at U.S. 40, 3,959 feet west of Fayette County Road 100E). ISP did not issue a reason for Mullen leaving the roadway.
The vehicle traveled 559 feet and struck a tree head-on. Mullen was entrapped inside the box truck, and had to be extricated by the Mulberry Grove and Vandalia fire departments.
Air Evac Life Team transported Mullen via helicopter to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis with unspecified injuries.
Mullen has been cited for Improper Lane Usage.
