LAWRENCE CO., Ill. - A woman from West Union in Clark County lost her life in a late-night two-vehicle crash in Lawrence County last night (Friday, November 23).
Illinois State Police in District 12 Effingham report that the wreck occurred on U.S. Highway 50, one mile east of Illinois Route 1 in Lawrenceville, at 11:02 p.m. last night.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a green 2011 Kia being driven by Bobbie Yvette Johnston, 54, of West Union, was westbound on 50, with a black 2014 Cadillac being driven by Tommy L. Green, 55, of Robinson, traveling eastbound at the same location.
ISP said that Johnston's Kia crossed into the eastbound lane in front of Green's Cadillac, striking the Caddy head-on. This caused both vehicles to spin out of control. The Kia spun and came to rest in the middle of 50 facing east. The Cadillac spun and came to rest part-way in the ditch off the right side of 50 facing north.
Green was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment. Johnston died of her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lawrence County Coroner at 11:19 p.m.
No citations were issued.
