MARION, Ill. - With the bizarre and inexplicable election of former Marion city attorney Steve Green to an open judicial seat in Williamson County, Marion City Council last night took action on the vacancy.
The other candidate was Joe Cervantez of Tetzlaff Cervantez and Associates.
Each candidate gave a brief history of themselves and their qualifications. The council had questions for each candidate, then went into executive session for a decision.
All voted yes except for Commissioner Angelo Hightower, who abstained from voting (it's unclear why, exactly, but there's a strong likelihood that because Green was the attorney at the helm when the city filed a lawsuit to determine whether Hightower could remain a police officer while serving on the city council, which you can read about here.
David Lawler will be the attorney attending meetings.
We'll have more coming up on Green, who might be one of the only sitting judges in downstate to be indicted by a federal grand jury if the situation with the mall in Marion continues to worsen...which it has. Article coming up; be watching.
