MARION, Ill. - Problems at Illinois Star Centre Mall took another devastating turn last week when various remaining merchants received a 30-day vacate notice.
Our sources at the mall report that they received the letters on Saturday, and that they involve all stores except for the two anchors, Dillard's and Target, Mantracon (as they own their own buildings) and Pirate Pete's.
Fox's Flowers didn't receive a letter because their lease was up; as well, neither did Fujiyama restaurant, as they are reportedly planning on moving to a new location.
We have reported the situation with the mall steadily over the years, which links can be found at this post we put together at the end of August.
What's interesting about the issue is that the former city attorney Steve Green - now a judge - was an integral player in the machinations that went on behind the scenes regarding bonds sold that brought the mall into town in the first place. Mainstream media overlooks the fact that Green was part of the power brokers who created the mess...and there are a handful of people who might be on the hook for misuse of funds that went into placing the propping up the mall, Green possibly being among them. Far be it from mainstream media to mention it, therefore, as reporting the truth about judges is apparently forbidden, since they are sacrosanct. Not here, you know. But mainstream media, yes.
We'll update as we get more info. Be watching.
