COBDEN, Ill. - Nestled in the woods of the Shawnee National Forest at Cobden sits the lovely Blue Boar Restaurant and Bar, which is were we headed this past week to discover the dining offerings of southernmost illinois.
With an eclectic decor and lots of eye candy everywhere you look, the Blue Boar has outdoor dining available as well as banquet facilities. Definitely a destination of sorts being a little over two miles outside of Jonesboro.
They do have their regulars of course as well as adventure seekers like myself. Arriving early in the evening, I waited a short while til they opened and they were kind enough to let me sit inside enjoying all the sights.
Not having a huge appetite and not wanting something to heavy, I opted for a bowl of gumbo. It was served with a mini loaf of fresh wheat bread and butter along with club crackers (all of this shown above). Iced tea half cut was my beverage of choice.
One couple I encountered had chili and grilled cheese, and a jalapeño burger, all shown above.
A couple of gentlemen at the bar were snacking on some sweet teriyaki wings. After I’d ordered, a friend told me they had very good ribeye. I’ll save room for that next time.
Below is the menu; be sure and stop in to Blue Boar next time you're in the Cobden area!
