CARMI, Ill. - A need for a soda got a Carmi guy popped on an Edwards County warrant last night.
Carmi police report that at 8:53 p.m. last night (Monday, November 5), a CPD officer located one Steven A. Earl, 31 of Carmi, at Fifth Street Market, getting a soda from the machines.
The reporting officer knew Earl to have an outstanding Edwards County warrant, so he stopped and took Earl into custody. That particular warrant, it appears, stems from a 2015 case on which Earl was placed on pay or appear...and it appears he didn't do either one, so the warrant was issued.
Fortuitously for the White County authorities, it didn't stop there.
When Earl was taken into custody, police reported, it was discovered that he had a pipe on his person. Earl told police that he'd "found" that particular pipe, but...when it tested positive for meth, that's about the time authorities decided that it was all his, whether he "found" it that way or not.
To add to the mess he was in, authorities discovered that he had a small amount of cannabis on him and two one-hitter pipes used to smoke cannabis. So Earl was additionally charged with Possession of Meth, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Cannabis less than 10 grams.
The hapless Earl was lodged in the Carmi/White County Jail, where he remained as of this evening, Tuesday, Nov. 6.
