CUMBERLAND CO., Ill. - A two-vehilce collision on Interstate 70 in Cumberland County sent two individuals from Clay County to an area hospital, and got a young driver from Jasper County cited earlier today.
Illinois State Police in District 12 Effingham report that the crash occurred at 12:20 p.m. this afternoon, Sunday, November 4.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a 2000 Chevrolet truck being driven by Makenna R. Ochs, 18, of Newton, was entering I-70 east at the milepost 119 entrance ramp outside Greenup.
Upon entering I-70, Ochs lost control of the vehicle on a wet roadway, turning sideways in the roadway and striking an already-eastbound 2017 Ford Edge, being driven by Larry D. Burroughs, 49, of Louisville, in the left lane. With Burroughs was passenger Cheryl M. Burroughs, 51, also of Louisville.
Upon colliding, both vehicles came to rest in the median of I-70.
The Burroughs pair were taken by ambulance to St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham for minor injuries.
Ochs was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
