WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - A three-vehicle collision caused injuries and a citation earlier today in the Crab Orchard Lake area of Williamson County.
Illinois State Police in District 13 out of DuQuoin report that the accident occurred late this morning (11:05 a.m. Monday, September 24) on Illinois Route 148 at Crab Orchard Lake.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a 2007 Chevrolet pickup being driven by Charles M. Johnson, 34, of Carbondale, and a 2000 Chevrolet Prizm being driven by Villa J. Bedell, 79, of Goreville, were traveling southbound on Illinois Route 148 at Crab Orchard Lake.
Bedell's Prizm had come to a stop in the roadway for a work zone flagger. The Chevrolet pickup struck the rear of the Prizm, causing it to cross into the northbound lane, striking a 2014 Autocar being driven by Michael J. Kommer, 42, of Vienna, which was traveling northbound, in a head-on fashion.
Johnson was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, as was Bedell; Kommer was uninjured.
Johnson was later cited for Disregarding a Stop Sign.
