Underage drinking cited in single-vehicle crash

WABASH CO., Ill. - A Mt. Carmel woman is in a bit of trouble today following an early-morning crash that sent her and a passenger from Indiana to the county jail in Wabash.

Wabash County Sheriff Derek Morgan advises that the single-vehicle crash occurred yesterday morning (Wednesday, September 19) at 5:50 a.m. at 10259 Wabash 10 Avenue.

Once on scene, Morgan said, Deputy Bogard determined a 2011 Chevrolet had been southbound on Wabash 10 Ave. when the driver reached for a cell phone and lost control of the vehicle.

The Chevrolet struck a utility pole, causing it to split in half while the vehicle came to rest on its roof.

Emily I. Dill, 20 of Mt. Carmel, was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident as well as Illegal Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and Obstruction of Justice. A passenger, Ryce Carey, 23 of Princeton, was treated and released at WGH for her injuries and later taken into custody and charged with Obstruction of Justice as well.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted by Mt. Carmel Police Department, Mt. Carmel Fire Department and Wabash General Ambulance Service.
