RANDOLPH/PERRY CO. line, Ill. - A young man from Sparta lost his life in a single-vehicle accident that occurred on the county line of Randolph and Perry early yesterday morning.
Illinois State Police in District 13 DuQuoin report that the accident occurred yesterday (Sunday, September 16) at 8:42 a.m.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a 1986 Chevrolet pickup being driven by Robert Cassady, 20, was northbound on the Randolph/Perry County Line Road, .34 of a mile south of Mary's Creek Road when it drove off the roadway to the right and struck a mailbox.
The truck drove back across the roadway before it traveled off the roadway to the left. It then overturned an unknown number of times before coming to final rest upright.
Cassady was fatally injured in the crash.
