Interesting weekend in Carmi as folks from out of state get hemmed up

CARMI, Ill. - A typical weekend of couples fighting, warrant arrests and other matters took up the time of city police in Carmi.

The action began on Friday afternoon when, at 4:25 p.m., Michael P. Barkley, 39, of Carmi, turned himself in at the county jail on a warrant out of Franklin County for Failure to Appear on a charge of Violating an Order of Protection with Prior Domestic Battery.

Barkley was apparently ready for this inevitability, as he was able to post bond ($595) to secure his freedom.

On Saturday, Sept. 15, at 9:09 a.m., one Donald E. Stover, 43, of Carmi, and Lindsay West, 33, reporting an address of Knoxville, Tenn., started their day off early and on the wrong foot.

The two got into it and West was arrested for Domestic Battery, with Stover arrested for Obstructing Justice and Resisting/Obstructing a Peace Officer, this while at a location on the 400 block of East Cherry St.

Both were still incarcerated as of this evening (Monday, Sept. 17).

Early Sunday, September 16, a guy from Patoka, Indiana, was arrested in a kind of a strange incident.

Reports show that Johnny L. Vantlin, 26, was arrested on a Failure to Appear Warrant for Illegal Consumption following a call for service on the Dairy Queen parking lot.

The reports did not make clear who it was that called for “service” on the parking lot, as the restaurant was probably not open at that time, but maybe it was Vantlin who was calling the cops to report that fact, and that he was craving a moolatte or something.

Whatever the case, Vantlin was still in lockup as of today.

Also on Sunday, a Carmi woman was taken into custody apparently in the lobby of the city/county jail, which might have been under some kind of interesting circumstances but there’s no elaboration on it.

Instead, what we do know if that at 1:38 in the morning yesterday, Patricia G. Eason, 48, reporting an address on Neeley Circle, was issued a citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
