WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - A Goreville man is facing serious charges in Williamson County after a tense incident in Williamson this past week.

Ricky D. McGuire, 56 of Goreville, is charged with Unlawful Use Weapon By A Felon, Unlawful Sale/Delivery Of A Firearm and Possession of Stolen Firearm.

On September 10, Sergeant Justin Dwyer with the Marion Police Department Narcotics Unit arranged the purchase of a stole gun from McGuire. A confidential source had told the officer that McGuire had offered to sell two rifles. The source allowed officer Dwyer to see the text messages they had between the two; the messages contained the images of two rifles, one appearing to be a Remington 870, 12 gauge shotgun, black in color, and the other being a silver and wood-grain lever action rifle.

The source had shown Sgt. Dwyer McGuire's Facebook page containing his picture. Sgt. Dwyer ran a LEADS on McGuire and found him to be a convicted felon for murder, weapons and drug offenses. He was also wanted on a warrant for assault out of Montgomery County.

The meeting took place later that day on the Rural King parking lot. McGuire arrived as a passenger in a white Jeep Cherokee. At this time Sgt. Dwyer instructed the reaction team consisting of Chief Tondini, Sgt Baldwin, officers Ogden, Schrock, and Welge, to detain him. McGuire was detained without incident. During initial observation a cannabis pipe was located on the console.

Located under the hood was a a 870 twelve gauge shotgun, black in color, wrapped in two socks and tied with a shoelace.

McGuire was advised of his Miranda rights which he stated he understood. He was taken to the Williamson County Jail where he is being held on $1,000 cash bond.
