MARION, Ill. - Employees of Borowiak's IGA in Marion say they were shocked to learn of the closing of the West Main Street location.
They said it had been previously mentioned but nothing was ever confirmed until recently.
"We still haven’t been given an actual closing date other than possibly around 6 weeks," said one employee.
The deli will be the first to close, we were told, and they aren’t reordering anything other than what’s needed for that week. There’s been no talk of huge sales since most of the stock will be relocated to other Borowiak stores.
Mack and Fritzi Jaynes still own the building and it’s likely to reopen possibly as an ACE Hardware the employee tells us. This is the only store, it's been noted, that Trevor Borowiak (from Albion in Edwards County, where the Borowiak IGA stores originated with his dad, Ed) does not own the building.
Here are a few of the shoppers and employees we interviewed for the piece here.

Rosemary Overture and her daughter Debra Perry say they come here to buy their meats. They said they don’t know where they will shop now.
