The resignation letter was submitted this afternoon (Saturday, September 1)
SALINE CO., Ill. - Three-term sheriff D. Keith Brown has resigned his post effective tomorrow, September 2, 2018.
In a letter submitted to media today but dated August 23, Brown outlines the resignation; the letter is presented here in its entirety.
On September 2, 2018, I will resign my office of Sheriff of Saline County. This is done with my acceptance of a job in education that has been offered to me.
I thank the citizens of Saline County who three times showed their confidence in me to elect me as their County Sheriff.
I will miss my everyday contact with the public, and especially staff, other city and county officials to solve problems within our community. After almost 40 years of law enforcement service, I hope to continue to serve by my efforts working with our younger citizens.
I would like to recognize our staff, Chief Deputy and division heads for their timeless efforts and selfless commitment to advancing community policing philosophy in Saline County. The success of this work is evidenced by the positive impact on the lives of the citizens of Saline County, by having close, mutually-beneficial ties among the community members, law enforcement entities, state and federal organizations.
Thank you
Sheriff D.K. Brown
This means that Ken Clore, Saline's Chief Deputy, will be assuming sheriff's duties as of tomorrow.
