WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - Williamson County State's Attorney Brandon Zanotti has announced sentencing of a man charged with Forgery in his county.

Zanotti said that on August 6, 2018, Josten T. Denwood, 26, of Marion pled guilty to one count of Forgery, a Class 3 felony, stemming from an October 2017 arrest in Marion. He was sentenced to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections as part of the plea.

On October 9, 2017, as part of a routine street-level drug investigation, Denwood was located by officers after a brief foot pursuit. During the pursuit, Denwood scattered several items that were in his possession. Of those items, Marion officers located eight counterfeit twenty dollar bills.

Denwood will be under mandatory supervised release for one year following his release.

The investigation was handled by the Marion Police Department. Assistant State’s Attorney Becky Ray led the prosecution of this case.

“With a diversified history of criminal activity, we are thankful to have the defendant off the streets," Zanotti said. "He has been the root of several crimes around the Marion area and I want to commend the Marion Police Department for their thorough investigation leading to this plea.”
