WHITE CO., Ill. - White County Sheriff Doug Maier has released information regarding the death of a local man at his Carmi residence.
Maier said that his department responded to a call for assistance at 309 Fairview Drive, Carmi (reports don't indicate exactly when this occurred).
Sgt. Craig Poole responded along with Carmi Chief Jason Carter and the Carmi Police Department. White County Ambulance also responded.
In the barn area of the property, a male subject was laying on the ground being tended to by ambulance personnel. A cut piece of rope was on the ground and a cut rope was hanging from the rafter-type boards in the ceiling. The male subject was identified as Randall C. Cox, age 57.
Two other individuals were also present and they advised that they had received a message to check on Randy's well-being, that he was threatening to hurt himself. They arrived and cut the rope, attempting to give aid while calling for assistance.
White County's coroner was called to the scene. No foul play is suspected.
