PALESTINE, Ill. - Palestine Chief of Police Jeff Besing has submitted a reminder for folks as we head back into the back-to-school season starting next week.
Besing said that the first day of school in the village will be August 17. This is a reminder that the Palestine Police Department will be actively enforcing the 20 mph school zone speed limit in the areas of both schools, Palestine High School and Palestine Grade School.
Please be cautious of students walking or riding their bikes to and from school. School zone enforcement times are from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. when children are present.
Also, it is illegal to pass a school bus when the buses are loading and unloading students with their cautionary lights illuminated and “stop arm” extended. You could potentially loose your driving privileges for this offense.
