EFFINGHAM CO., Ill. - A motorcyclist, attempting to avoid another in front of him that was becoming disabled on the road, instead flipped his bike and was injured in an accident yesterday morning.
Illinois State Police in Effingham said the accident occurred on U.S. Route 45 southbound just south of Heartville at Effingham County Road 870th Avenue yesterday (Saturday, July 14) at 8:46 a.m.
At that time, preliminary investigative details show, a black 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle being driven by Nathan E. Miller, 37, of Shelbyville, was traveling behind another motorcycle that was slowing down due to a flat tire.
Miller was applying the front brake to slow down when the front tire of his bike locked up and flipped over, ejecting Miller from the motorcycle.
Miller was transported to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital by ambulance with unspecified injuries; there was no indication in ISP's report as to whether he was wearing a helmet. No citations have been issued in the crash.
