SULLIVAN CO., Ind. - The body found in the Wabash River and taken ashore in Indiana has been identified as that of a man from Lawrenceville missing since Tuesday.
Indiana authorities advised yesterday (Friday, July 13) that the body of David Overbay, 49 of Lawrenceville was discovered Wednesday night, July 11, by a boater in the river about midway between downstream from Hutsonville, located in Crawford County, Ill., and Merom in Sullivan County, Ind.

The boater made a 911 call and Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom said that his department spent the next couple of days "piecing together" what happened and how Overbay ended up where he did: It appears that Overbay's truck broke down and someone - either Overbay or a passerby - contacted authorities. However, before police could arrive, Overbay inexplicably tried to swim across the Wabash River, where autopsy reports show he drowned.
There are toxicology and other tests pending.
