Dan "Pegleg" Curry
SALINE CO., Ill. - On July 12, 2018, a Saline County jury found Daniel M. Curry, age 44, of Eldorado, Illinois guilty of a Class 4 felony charge of Domestic Battery (Enhanced Sentence).
Assistant State’s Attorney Jason A. Olson handled the successful prosecution of the case, including trying the case before the jury.
Curry’s Domestic Battery conviction arose out of an incident in which he pushed his wife down into a ditch, causing injuries to the victim. Curry was charged with a Class 4 felony because he had previously been convicted of Aggravated Battery. Class 4 felonies generally carry a possible sentence of 1 to 3 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
However, because of Curry’s criminal record, he is eligible for an extended term sentence of 1 to 6 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
The investigation of Curry’s case was led by Deputy Craig Williams of the Saline County Sheriff’s Department. Sgt. Curt Hustedde of the Harrisburg Police Department assisted Deputy Williams with the investigation. Curry will be sentenced by Judge Walden E. Morris on August 21, 2018.
Jack note: Curry probably was forced into this jury trial - at which his wife, Tammy, actually testified truthfully against him, thus putting herself in some sort of danger if he's not sent off to IDOC - because he is accused of hacking at her arm with some sort of sharp object a couple of weekends ago while the two were "camping" at a location in Pope County (more like hiding out, as he's been prohibited from being around her as terms of bond, but neither one of them will, which has resulted in repeated bond violations). Missy Presser, who cuts no one any slack in Pope, is pursuing that charge in that county. As a result of the Pope incident, Pegleg (as Curry is known, having lost a leg in a DUI incident in Hardin County a few years ago) was probably told "enough" by Olson, and given the option to either take a plea or take it to court. Apparently, the ever-arrogant Curry took it to court, and, having rolled the dice, lost.
