Palestine suspect who fled Friday morning traffic stop caught in stand-off

PALESTINE, Ill. - Palestine Police Chief Jeff Besing issued information about the Friday morning incident wherein a local man was the subject of a traffic stop from which he fled.

Besing said that at approximately 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 6, the wanted suspect who fled from an early-morning vehicle stop, Ronald E. Seals, 62, was tracked back to his residence at 519 E. Market Street where a standoff began after Seals refused to exit his house. Law enforcement officers from the Robinson Police Department and Chief Besing surrounded the house awaiting Robinson K-9 Officer Nathaniel Nicklaus and K-9 Dex to arrive.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., K-9 Dex was deployed inside of the residence, where Seals was located hiding in the shower and was taken into custody without incident.

Seals was transported to the Crawford County Jail by Chief Besing where he was charged with two (2) felony warrants out of Knox County, Indiana, for Felony Forgery and Theft. Seals was also charged with Speeding (70 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone)-Class A Misdemeanor, Resisting & Obstructing a Peace Officer, Class A Misdemeanor, Aggravated Fleeing and Attempting to Elude-Class 4 felony, Reckless Driving-Class A Misdemeanor,(2) counts of Disobeying a Stop Sign and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident.

Seals is being held on the "No Bond" warrants from Knox County plus awaiting bond being set by a judge for the Palestine charges.
