HAMILTON CO., Ill. - A truck driver from Belleville ran into a bit of trouble early Friday morning when he ran off the road on Highway 242 in Hamilton County.
Illinois State Police report that the single-vehicle accident occurred at about 7:47 a.m. this morning (Friday, July 6) on 242 about a half-mile north of Blairsville Road.
According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, the driver of a white 2017 Freightliner truck tractor/semi-trailer combination, Christopher L. Littlejohn, 56, of Belleville, was traveling southbound on 242 when he began to
leave the west edge of the roadway. Littlejohn attempted to return the vehicle to the roadway, but was unsuccessful, as he crossed the northbound lane of Illinois Route 242, left the east side of the roadway and overturned.
Once the vehicle left the roadway, it struck a steel utility pole.
Littlejohn was transported from the crash scene by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The truck tractor and semi-trailer were required to be towed from the crash scene. ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, Harre Ambulance Service, McLeansboro Fire Department, Wayne-White Electric Cooperative, and McDermott Towing.
Littlejohn was cited for Improper Lane Usage.
