FLORA, Ill. - Authorities in Flora have confirmed that there was an incident with fireworks last night at the city display that injured several kids at Charley Brown Park.
Officials said that five young children, ages 4 through 9, were struck by parts of an exploded "water cake" display, which was described as fireworks that are designed to go on the water, then explode.
Emergency medical personnel responded immediately; however, three of the kids were apparently uninjured and it was described to us that they refused treatment at the scene.
The other two, though, were taken to Clay County Hospital for treatment of burns they received when the water cake parts struck them.
The severity of the burns was not known; as well, the conditions of the kids today has not been indicated.
