GOLCONDA, Ill. - Haven't had enough of the annual festive observance of our nation's creation? Love to get everybody out in the great outdoors - even despite the heat - and gaze upon the skyflowers? How about being a part of an historic event, brought to you by one of the coolest, most progressive little towns in downstate?
You can do it all tomorrow night in beautiful Golconda, in Pope County.
Mayor Jon Broadway is pleased to announce that the City of Golconda will be having a fireworks celebration tomorrow night (Friday, July 6) for the first time in over 35 years! Broadway said the city would be honored if you and your family would plan to join in for this fun-filled Family Night, with activities that kick off at 5 p.m. on the Courthouse lawn for the kiddoes; there will be bouncy houses, games, food and drinks, horse & buggy rides, and the ever-popular helicopter rides from the pad up on the riverbank overlooking the beautiful Ohio River.
And there's going to be entertainment...and not just any entertainment, either, but extremely high quality: Mason "Little Hank" Ramsey will be performing in a free concert. Mason will take the stage on the courthouse lawn from 7 to 8 p.m.
At 8:30, there's going to be a Boat Parade on the Ohio River....which should be a VERY neat sight.
And then around 8:45 p.m. or so, a 45-minute fireworks display will light up the skies over the Ohio, capping off an awesome evening.
So gather everybody up and head on down to Golconda, where the locals are experts at putting on fests, so this one won't disappoint. We'll be there (because we love fest food; not gonna lie)...stop and say hi if you see us...and enjoy the fireworks AGAIN.
