WAYNE CO., Ill. - A head-on collision in Wayne County earlier today sent two Fairfield residents to a regional hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in it.
Illinois State Police were called to the scene of the accident, which occurred at 3:47 p.m. today (Friday, June 29).
According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, a white 2006 Chevrolet Express van, operated by David M. Waldrop, 54 of Fairfield, was traveling east on Illinois Rt. 15 and was slowed in traffic due to another vehicle in front of it turning right (south) onto Wayne County Road (CR) 2300E.
A white 2003 Pontiac Montana minivan, driven by Tonya Moore, 46, of Albion, was traveling east on 15 behind the white Chevrolet van. Tonya Moore attempted to brake the white Pontiac, but for reasons unknown the vehicle crossed into the westbound lane of travel and struck a 1999 black Toyota pickup, driven by Stuart Moore, 44 of Fairfield, head-on.
After colliding with the black Toyota, the white Pontiac struck the driver’s side of the Chevrolet van before coming to rest in the eastbound lane. The black Toyota came to rest in a ditch on the north side of 15.
Tonya Moore was ejected from her vehicle during the incident and both she and Stuart Moore were transported by Air Evac to a regional hospital for treatment of injuries they sustained in the crash. Neither Waldrop, nor a passenger in the white Chevrolet van were injured. Stuart Moore, Waldrop and the passenger in Waldrop’s van were all wearing their seat belt at the time of the crash.
ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Fairfield Police Department, Fairfield Rural Fire Department and the Wayne County Ambulance Service.
