CARMI, Ill. - Carmi police had a relatively low-key weekend compared to the previous, but there are plenty of rowdies to report in the wake of an absence of info about the inmates who escaped the jail last weekend.

Or at least a few of them.

Antonio Ellis

The first came about in the wee hours of Saturday, June 23, when at 1:09 a.m., authorities were called to an apartment on the 900 block of Stewart Street on a domestic battery call.

They arrested Antonio Ellis, 42, of St. Louis.

Ellis was toted off to the county jail, where he remained as of this afternoon, unable to post bond.

Jonathon Heern

The next incident to arise came in the form of gorge.

That'd be because Jonathon W. Heern, 25, of Stevens Street in Carmi, apparently overindulged a bit.

Authorities were called to the Huck's store in Carmi over on Oak Street Sunday morning (June 24, at 6:28 a.m.) where they had a report of a "very intoxicated male in a car, vomiting on himself."

The ensuing investigation lead to the arrest of Heern not only for DUI, but for Unlawful Use of Weapons, as apparently there was something in the car that prompted such a charge. Unfortunately, barfing on oneself after indulging too much in adult beverages isn't a chargeable offense, but the way things are going in Illinois, perhaps overpaid legislators will outlaw "stupid" at some point in the future, making us safer from such creatures (although they might not, as said law could be turned against legislators en masse....)

Rebecca Cartmill

Lastly, a gal who doesn't understand the "stay away" part of an Order of Protection (allegedly, of course) was arrested yesterday evening at 6:20 p.m.

Rebecca L. Cartmill, 37, of Fackney Street in Carmi, was taken into custody at that time. Police reports state that she had come within 500 feet of a protected address, as well as had made multiple phone calls, all in violation of the order.

Cartmill was located at Pundrake's and taken into custody without incident.
