WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - The women's self-defense class, hosted by Williamson County Sheriff Bennie Vick, was held on Monday and Tuesday, June 11 and 12, 2018 at the Williamson County Sheriff's office.
Lieutenant Dennis Pinkerton, instructor and currently acting Jail Administrator at the Williamson County Jail, stated several times self defense was a mindset.
"You have to ask yourself, 'Am I going to be a victim?'” Pinkerton told the class, adding "It’s better to be judged by twelve than carried by six."
A several-page handout was given explaining reference to awareness, in easy-to-remember terms as follows:
A. Alert to Surroundings
W. Warning Signs of Aggression
A. Avoidance of hostile persons and places
R. Responding Verbally to Aggression
E. Effective Defense Tactics
The ladies also participated in hands-on demonstrations in the various holds and learning various pressure points to use in order to survive.
Our Marion correspondent actually took the class, and noted that Pinkerton "definitely made the class interesting, informative and fun."
