FLORA, Ill. - A motorcycle crash on East Railroad Street in Flora last night sent a Louisville man to the local hospital and got him cited for street racing, according to Illinois State Police.
ISP said the incident occurred last night at a quarter to 8 (Saturday, June 9).
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a white 2014 Harley Davidson being operated by Timmy J. Sowers, 51, of Louisville, was traveling west on East Railroad Street, west of South Mill Street, at 7:45 p.m. last night in Flora.
While attempting to street race with another motorcycle, Sowers, said ISP, exited East Railroad Street and drove onto the grass located to the south of the roadway. As he continued westward, Sowers tried to reenter the paved roadway from the grass and lost control of the motorcycle. He was subsequently thrown off his bike and landed in the grass. The bike skidded back onto the paved road and overturned at least once before coming to rest on the pavement.
Sowers was transported from the scene by Clay County Ambulance to the Clay County Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
Sowers was cited for Street Racing, Reckless Driving, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash, and Driving on the Wrong Side of the Roadway.
There is no mention of whatever other driver or drivers there may have been in Sowers' vicinity that he could have raced with.
