WHITE CO., Ill. - Hydroplaning during the heavy rains and high winds today caused an Eldorado driver to leave the highway and crash into trees on U.S. 45, according to an accident report from Illinois State Police.

ISP in District 19 Carmi report that the single-vehicle crash occurred at 4 p.m. today, Friday, June 21.

Preliminary traffic crash investigation indicates that Nancy A. Racine, 63 of Eldorado, was operating a red 2000 Mazda pickup truck northbound on US 45 near the intersection of White County road 125E in the rain. Racine stated that her vehicle began to hydroplane. This caused the vehicle to lose control and leave the roadway on the right side, striking a ditch embankment and numerous trees. ISP said that hazardous weather conditions, intense rain and strong winds contributed to the incident.

Racine incurred minor injuries and was transported to Ferrell hospital by the White County ambulance. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Jones Towing from Omaha.

MARION, Ill. - A press release from the Marion Police Department has outlined an incident that occurred last night in town.

Authorities say that last night (Sunday, June 23) approximately 8:14 p.m., Marion PD Officers responded to a 911 shots-fired call in the 2600 block of Ingersoll Lane.

Upon arriving on scene, MPD Officers observed a male, later identified as Lucas K. Johnson, 40, on or near the front porch of his property holding what appeared to be a shotgun.

Following several attempts to get Johnson to drop the weapon, an MPD Officer fired a service weapon at, and striking, Johnson.

Johnson was taken into custody and transported to the Heartland Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

No officers were injured. The Illinois State Police was notified immediately of the officer involved shooting and will conduct the official investigation into this incident.

This investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.

Two arrested, charged, after domestic battery incident

$

CARMI, Ill. - Two individuals, one from Carmi, the other from Enfield, were taken into custody Saturday following a situation of warrant service and alleged aggravated domestic battery...but it quickly turned into a much bigger event.

Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter advises that the situation emerged late Saturday morning (June 22) when at 11:37 a.m., an arrest was effected on the parking lot at Murphy's USA gas station outside of Walmart.

Michael James Sullivan

Arrested was Michael James Sullivan, 31, of the 600 block of North Illinois Street in Carmi; Sullivan was wanted on two warrants for Aggravated Domestic Battery; however, at the time of his arrest, he was also charged with an additional Agg Dom Batt from an incident which had occurred earlier in the day.

Brandi M. Carter

To add to the situation, a woman with Sullivan, Brandi M. Carter, 44 of Prairie Street in Enfield, was charged with Aiding a Fugitive and Unlawful Use of Property (documents don't show what the property was; it can probably be safely assumed that the aiding a fugitive charge stemmed from whatever she was doing with Sullivan in her presence.)

And then things got worse for both of them.

Upon prepping to take them in, authorities found all kinds of illicit items either in a vehicle or on their person: Meth in the amount of 3.21 grams, scales, $1,540 in cash and a list of names and amounts next to the names (so if your meth delivery didn't come through this weekend, here's why; and if it did come through...here's your warning).

The two were subsequently charged with Possession of Meth, Possession with Intent to Deliver Meth, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. As well, both were cited with civil citations for Possession of Cannabis and Possession of Cannabis Paraphernalia.

Both remain behind bars as of this afternoon, Monday, June 24.

MT. CARMEL, Ill. - It appears that the trend of angry people lashing out and getting arrested for it is here to stay...at least for awhile.

That's the major point of arrests in this most recent Mt. Carmel Police Department activity report, all of it happening yesterday, Sunday, June 23... so let's get to it.

Ear-biting on West Sixth Street

Mary Birkla

First, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Mary E. Birkla, 50 of Mt. Carmel, for Domestic Battery following a domestic dispute with her boyfriend.  Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of West Sixth Street in reference to a domestic. Once officers arrived on scene, they found the boyfriend had a significant ear injury from Birkla, who had allegedly bit the boyfriend’s ear. After completing their investigation officers placed Birkla under arrest. Her boyfriend later sought treatment at a local hospital. Birkla was transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was charged and held pending a bond setting by a judge. Mt. Carmel Police were assisted by the Wabash County Sheriff's Office.

Another Sixth Street incident

Also on Sunday, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Clyde E. Bartley, 30 of Mt. Carmel, for Resisting/Obstructing a Peace Officer. Officers were called to a residence in the 800 block of West Sixth Street in reference to an unwanted person. Before officers could arrive, a dispute occurred between the home owner and the unwanted subject Clyde Bartley. Once officers arrived on scene they spoke to both parties. Bartley became loud and unruly during this time, which resulted in officers requesting he quiet down or face arrest. Bartley elected to place himself in a nearby squad car. When officers ordered Bartley out of the vehicle (Bartley was not under arrest at this time nor in handcuffs) he lunged towards the officers. Bartley was then placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail. Bartley was later charged and held pending the posting of bond. Mt. Carmel Police were assisted by the Wabash County Sheriff's Office.

Juvenile threatened with knife

Lastly on Sunday, Mt. Carmel Police arrested Eric M. Sadler, 19 of Mt. Carmel, for Assault and Illegal Consumption of Alcohol by Minor following a dispute at a residence in the 200 block of McDowell Street.  Once officers arrived they found the Sadler had threatened a juvenile subject with a knife at the home. Sadler was located later into the night, whereupon he was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail. Sadler is being held pending the posting of bond.

Mystery of possible B&E at Enfield home being investigated

ENFIELD, Ill. - White County Sheriff's authorities are investigating a situation that occurred Friday in the village of Enfield, where it appears a home was broken into...but it took a while to come to that conclusion.

A report of a forcible entry into an Enfield home on the 400 block of E. Johnson Street got the whole thing rolling; this was when a White County deputy responded to the address Friday night (June 21) at approximately 9:39 p.m. to take the report.

Upon arrival, he spoke with Kimberly S. Duckworth, 55, who lived at the residence, the property being owned by her parents. She advised that she left her residence at approximately 5:30 a.m. that morning and didn't return until approximately 9:15 p.m. that night. When she returned, she observed a two-car carport had been removed from the property east of her residence at the 400 block of E. Johnson. She stated that this property is also owned by her parents, and that her son, James E. Steele, 27, lived there. However, she stated that both homes are currently for sale and no property should be removed from either location...and then she further stated that she believed her son, Steele, had removed the carport and sold it without permission.

Further to that, she stated that she had also observed that someone had forced open a garage door that led to the interior living area of her residence on the 400 block of E. Johnson; that a number of items were moved around and should have been propped against the door, and that the plastic sheeting and towels that she had placed against the garage door were removed.

The deputy observed the door area and the cables attaching the door to the overhead track also appeared damaged.

Duckworth advised that the only item she believed was missing was a BB gun that belongs to Steele, and stated that she believed he was the one who forced entry into the residence, but that she couldn't prove it.

While the deputy was speaking with Duckworth, Steele called her on her phone. The deputy listened to the conversation on Duckworth's side, wherein Duckworth asked her son what he had done with the carport.

Steele advised that the carport had been disassembled so that a small building at the rear of his residence could be removed. He stated that the sections of the carport were still in the driveway of his residence; as it turned out, the deputy had observed these sections when he approached the residence, and Duckworth stated that she didn't realize the sections were still on the property.

Duckworth then asked Steele if he had entered her residence without permission, and Steele stated he'd not been inside the home. He also advised that he hadn't damaged his mom's property in any way.

Photos were taken of the damage, and the deputy made an incident report, with Duckworth advising she would speak with her neighbors in an attempt to determine if anyone might have witnessed the damage to the garage door.

No, not THOSE kind of donuts....

WHITE CO., Ill. - White County authorities had their hands full over the weekend taking reports of stolen items and serving warrants, as well as dealing with criminal donuts: Someone cutting donuts in farm ground, causing damage.

That report came in Friday, June 21, when at 9 a.m., Danny L. Harris, 62 of rural Carmi, made a call to the White County Sheriff's Department.

The deputy taking the report was told that at some point in time that week, a vehicle had gone out to the Harris Bros. Farms LLC at 1673 CR 1920E, cutting donuts in the muddy ground and causing ruts on the property.

A report was taken; anyone with info should contact the White County Sheriff's Department.

Other reports taken over the weekend involved theft of items, some of them very specific.

The first came in Saturday the 22nd, when Ruth A. Williams, 76 of Crossville, reported a theft from her property, this report coming in at approximately 10:22 a.m. Williams advised that at some point in time during the previous day (June 21) from 12 noon to 3 p.m., someone entered upon her property and took wind chimes and yard ornaments. The chimes are described as one with a ball that lights up, one with a hummingbird, and one with three birds that act like they are eating. The yard ornaments, four in total, were described as a teapot, a hummingbird, a pink lantern, and a bird with a flower; all four ornaments were of the light-up variety. Again if anyone has any info, please contact the sheriff's department.

The next theft report came from Timothy Wilson, who called the SD at approximately 11:35 p.m. Saturday, June 22. Wilson stated that he and his girlfriend, Carson Boren, had left their residence at about 8 p.m. that evening; upon their return, they noticed that someone had entered the house and had taken their 42-inch Sanyo flat screen TV. Wilson stated that they had just recently moved into the house and had not unpacked everything yet, but believed the TV was the only thing missing.

Then on Sunday, June 23 at approximately 8:54 p.m., Jeff Leinard, 46 of Mill Shoals, called the sheriff's office to report that his social security number and tax information may have been taken from him. The responding deputy was told that earlier in the day, Leinard had a flash drive plugged into his smart TV, this drive containing his information. Leinard stated that he hadn't noticed any kind of fraud, but wanted an informational report done in case something did take place. He was advised to also contact Social Security as well as the IRS to report the situation.

In the warrant service front, there were two to speak of in White: Keaton T. Pollard, 23 of Crossville, was the first. His arrest on a warrant in a 2018 misdemeanor case in White County came about at the Huck's store in Carmi late Sunday night (June 23; at 11:28 p.m.).

Larry Tyree

The second occurred early Monday morning, June 24, when at 1 a.m., Larry R. Tyree, 30 of Sycamore Street in Carmi, was picked up on Oak Street at 10th in Carmi. He too was apparently able to post the requisite bond ($500) on the felony warrant to secure his release.
