HAMILTON CO.—Pictures were taken at approximately 1:30 p.m. yesterday (May 31, 2013), in the vicinity of the Piopolis turns area, on Illinois 242 between Wayne City in Wayne County and McLeansboro in Hamilton County.
The highway in front of the car is 242, the view you’re looking at in the above and below photos are to the southwest. And yes, I stopped the car to take the photos.
The highway was largely deserted, this in the afternoon at about 1:30.
Above, a view to the south.
At some of the lower-lying areas there had been signs up stating “water over pavement,” but those had been removed by the time I got there.
The little package store along that highway had water encroaching all the way around, but it wasn’t up in it yet, and customers could still access the business. But the overnight rains couldn’t have helped any…and we’re due for more throughout the weekend. So be watchful when you’re traveling in that area.
