SALINE CO.—A strange little situation played out just outside the city limits of Eldorado today, and resulted in the detention of a local man whose family has been in the news in recent years for violence.
Around 12:20 p.m. this afternoon (Wednesday, May 22, 2013) Eldorado fire, having responded to a fire call at Southeastern Illinois College and on the way back to the station, was toned out to a fire at the 2900 block of Highland in Eldorado, where a mobile home at a trailer park was reported on fire.
As it turned out, authorities believe this fire was intentionally set…and they’re looking at young Dylan Williams as the suspect.
Authorities have reported that it went down like this: Dylan Williams, 19, of Eldorado, had gotten into a verbal altercation with his grandmother, Delia E. Certain, in her mid-70s (age uncertain), who has an OP against him from a few weeks ago because of his bad behavior toward her. At about the same time (shortly before or shortly thereafter, it’s not really clear), he also got into it with his girlfriend/babymomma, Angila Riley (this is the name we’ve been given by officials, as it regards who was living in the trailer, where the fire was, etc., although some idiot family members are claiming she’s not the babymomma…but they won’t tell us who is, so it stays). Authorities report that when Riley ultimately called police, they responded to find that she had bruises on the backs of her arms, so she sustained those somehow.
At any rate, it was reported to authorities that after these altercations, Williams (appearing to be hyped up on something, according to every report), threatened to “burn the place down,” either to the grandma, to the girlfriend, or to both. Next thing everyone knew, he had gone in through the back door of Riley’s trailer, and allegedly set a fire in front of her clothes dryer.
He then disappeared into a woods that backed up to the trailer park.
Saline County was called, and reported that they had “the suspect and were detaining him”…and that’s as far as we know on the matter. We’re hoping to learn more in the morning.
Regular readers will recall the 2009 case involving Dylan’s dad John N. Williams, who went nuts and shot the boyfriend of his estranged wife with a .22…then prompted an overwhelming response of the High-Risk Tactical team, who blew out the windows of the Eldorado residence where Williams was said to be, lobbing flashbang grenades and all sorts of tactics…until it was discovered that Williams wasn’t even there. As it turned out, he very quietly contacted an Eldorado police officer, requesting to turn himself in. The initial charges were of Murder, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Aggravated Battery with a Weapon, etc…and was all ultimately plead down to Home Invasion, since the guy survived the gunshot wounds.
So Dylan hasn’t had a lot of role models to look up to.
We’ll be looking at the case in the morning…be checking back to see what we found out about Dylan Williams.
