MARION CO., Ill. - Illinois State Police said that speed was a factor in a single-vehicle crash early this morning in Marion County.

ISP said the crash occurred at 5:45 a.m. this morning, Tuesday, December 27, 2016.

Preliminary investigative details indicate that Joshua C. Daugherty, 24, of Kinmundy, was traveling in a 2012 Chevrolet southbound in the left lane on Interstate 57 at milepost 126 at a very high rate of speed.

The Chevy went off the road to the left, crossed the center median and both northbound lanes of traffic, then went off the road to the east and went down into the northbound ditch, striking several trees.

Daugherty’s vehicle came to final rest facing south in the ditch east of the Interstate.

Daugherty was transported via ambulance to Salem Township Hospital. He was subsequently cited with Improper Lane Usage, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash, and Reckless Driving.
