JASPER CO., Ill. - A wreck on Illinois 130 sent one driver to the hospital and left a youthful driver with citations.
Illinois State Police in District 12 said the crash took place this morning (Monday, December 26) at 10:50 a.m.
At that time, a black 2012 Ford Focus being driven by Philip S. Pankey, 67, of Lowell, Ind., was stopped on 130 to make a left turn on to County Road 600 North.
A second vehicle, a gray 2013 Chevrolet Impala being driven by a 16-year-old juvenile of Newton, was stopped behind Pankey's vehicle waiting to go straight on 130 after Pankey made the left turn.
A third vehicle, a black 2005 Dodge Ram pickup being driven by a 16-year-old juvenile from Sumner, was southbound on 130 approaching the other two vehicles. This Dodge Ram failed to yield for the stopped traffic, ISP said, and the pickup struck the Impala in the rear, causing it to run into the back of Pankey's Ford Focus.
The Ram pickup pushed the Impala into the ditch on the west side of the roadway.
The Ford Focus and the Chevy Impala came to rest in the ditch on the west side of the roadway. The Ram truck pulled off to the side of the roadway.
The 16-year-old driving the Impala was transported to St. Anthony's Hospital in Effingham for treatment of minor injuries.
The juvenile driver of the Dodge Ram was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident and Graduated Driver's License/One-Passenger Limit...which was apparently exceeded, but there was no word about how many passengers, or their ages, in the truck.
