THREE OUT-OF-STATE FOLKS INJURED IN GALLATIN COUNTY CRASH

GALLATIN CO., Ill. - A traffic crash happening last night in Gallatin County sent three people to hospitals and resulted in a DUI citation for one.

Illinois State Police in District 19 said the crash occurred last night (Sunday, November 20) at 9:57 p.m.

At that time, ISP said, Hershel L. Smith, 38, of Boonville, Indiana, was driving a silver 1987 Chevrolet truck southbound on the Shawneetown-New Haven Blacktop. At approximately one mile south of Highline Road, Smith lost control of the truck and traveled off the west side of the roadway.

The vehicle overturned, ejecting his two passengers, Christopher C. Smith, 35, of Sturgis, Kentucky, and Ashley D. Henshaw, 30, of Morganfield, Kentucky, from the vehicle.

Smith and Henshaw were transported from the crash scene by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Smith was transported by Air Evac to an area hospital for injuries he sustained in the crash. The vehicle was towed from the crash scene.

ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Gallatin County Sheriff's Department, Gallatin County Emergency Management Agency, Shawneetown Police Department, Shawneetown Fire Department, White County Rescue, Med Force Ambulance Service, Air Evac, Dr. Blane at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado, and C&T Automotive.

Smith was cited for DUI, Driving While License Revoked, Improper Lane Usage and Failure to Wear a Seatbelt. Smith and Henshaw were both cited for Failure to Wear a Seatbelt.
