JOHNSTON CITY, Ill. - Authorities in Johnston City have alerted the public to counterfeit bills going around in the area.
Here's material as they submitted on their Facebook page, along with the images featured here:
Caution: Counterfeit bills in the area. We have received several complaints of counterfeit bills in the area this past week alone.
This counterfeit $100 bill was passed today at a local business. At first glance this looks like a perfect $100 bill. It was even marked multiple times with a counterfeit pen and tested good.

Marking, strip
This particular bill has been "washed" and a $100 bill reprinted over the top of a $10 bill. Since this "washing" method was used the paper is the same and the brown pen test used to mark on the bills will still mark as "good money" since it is actually the paper that money is printed on.
You must look at the other security features to know this is a fake.
On the right side of all bills from $5 and up there is a strip inserted in the bill that says what denomination it is. Notice on this bill held over a flashlight it says "USA TEN" that means it is actually a $10 bill.

Silhouette image
Also to the right of the bill is the silhouette of who is supposed to be on the bill. The main picture and the silhouette that appears under light must match, if not it is a fake.
There are other security features but these are the easiest to find.
