Dr. Chhabra
WHITE CO.—On the docket in White County today is the jury trial of the physician accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his office in late 2011.
Dr. Jogendra Chhabra was charged at that time with Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault and Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, both involving bodily harm and both felonies, and a misdemeanor Battery count, this after a female patient claimed he sexually assaulted her while she was at his clinic in Norris City.
The doctor opted for a jury trial, in which jury selection is expected to begin this morning at the courthouse in Carmi.
For what it’s worth (and for a lot of people, it hasn’t been much), Chhabra is being represented by Benton attorney Bryan Drew. Drew can’t seem to come out ahead in jury trials and does better when his clients enter into plea negotiations, but we’ll see how he does for Dr. Chhabra.
