UPDATE 6:45 p.m.
We’re hearing that Aumiller’s passenger, whose identity we don’t have yet, has been air-evac’d out of the area with significant head trauma.
The woman in the passenger car has also been air evac’d out.
Aumiller, we understand, is being ticketed in the wreck. When we get more, we’ll bring it.
Below is the original post, unedited, with the original information we received that indicated the accident wasn’t as bad as it looked…but it’s turned out to be pretty bad.
CLAY CITY—A 16-year-old is okay after what could have been a dangerous collision on U.S. Highway 50 at the intersection with the main street through Clay City this afternoon, Sunday, February 4, 2013.
According to witnesses, the teen, Joe Aumiller, was driving a van when it collided at the intersection with a passenger car, being driven by a woman, 63, who’s been taken from the scene by ambulance with breathing problems.
While the accident looked terrible, it was not as bad as it appeared, and Aumiller is reported to be okay, even though the ‘jaws of life’ had to be used to extricate him. He has been taken to the hospital in Flora, along with a passenger, for treatment of minor injuries.
One of our long-time readers was passing by, and shot this from the passenger seat of the family vehicle; it shows the extent of the damage of one of the vehicles involved, although it’s hard to determine which one.
We’ll update the condition of the other driver as we get it, as well as any other information pertinent to the accident.
